5 most-asked questions about Julian Assange and the Festival of Dangerous Ideas
August 23, 2011 13 Comments
We’ve been asked quite a few questions about Julian Assange appearing at the Festival of Dangerous Ideas so, we thought we’d get our Head of Public Programs; Ann Mossop (Co-curator of FODI) to give us the answers to the 5 frequently asked questions:
Q: How did you get in touch with Julian Assange? Did you have to find a top secret document and send it to Wikileaks with the invitation?
A: No, I sent the invitation via his lawyer
Q: Were you disappointed that Splendour in the Grass got there first?
A: Not at all. We worked with them and we hope that their audience, having had a taste, will want to hear more.
Q: Have you talked at length to Julian Assange about the Festival?
A: No – something to look forward to.
Q: What do you want to hear him talk about?
A: That Wikileaks has not gone far enough of course! Also interested in finding out how anyone can lead their life in the glare of so much ‘radical transparency’.
Q: Is Julian Assange dangerous?
A: Well if Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin both say he’s a traitor, he must be.
If you’re interested on finding out who is more dangerous; Slavoj Žižek or Assange, then you will need to go here to find out.

As Julian Assange is speaking via a video link and the event is sold out is there any chance of having remote access (for a fee) so that those of us who have missed out on a ticket can heard what he has to say? Hopefully!
I have a ticket. Interested?
Definitely – how can we make contact?

Sorry, we are not able to do this for FODI 2011.
Will his segment be made available online at a later date?
Unfortunately no.
Why won’t this segment be available online ASAP? I was of the impression that all of last years Festival was made available within two weeks of the festival ending. This needs to be seen by more people.
Assange has given us a special interview we will be releasing this week.
That’s wonderful, thanks for letting everyone know.
any news about when Jonathan Safran Foer’s talk that was videoed will be made available online?
How come the guy is so sacrosanct with his words when he spills all other’s beans? Curious melange….he should throw them around like seeds to breed.
And who cares what Palin and Beck say about him…it’s a hackneyed gap agog that affects nothing he does…Jesus, give us a break with that stuff….
